New President of NBCC
Martin Falch took over the presidency from Douglas Brown on 1 January 2009. Martin was previously Vice President and has been a Council Member since 2003. For the past 8 years Martin was actively involved in building the Young Professional Chapter (YP) and later the Nordic ICT Forum which is a popular arena for Nordic Technology companies entering the UK market.
Martin is a partner with Nexec Partners - an executive search firm specialising on building boards and management teams for global technology companies. Also a Director of the European Leadership Programme (ELP) - a training and peer support community for talented CEOs and business leaders in Europe. Martin is a Norwegian national based in London. |

StatoilHydro find "not commercial" at 16 million barrels

Shell hires AF Gruppen in $29M Indetigable demo
Shell in the United Kingdom has hired Norway-based construction outfit AF Gruppen to decommission six platforms in the Indefatigable gas field in the British sector of the North Sea. Read more |

Right of action for a Norwegian branch of a foreign company
A great number of international corporations in the energy sector are engaged in business activities through affiliated branches offshore and onshore in Norway.
Numerous law decisions have been based upon the legal assumption that a Norwegian branch of a company domiciled abroad is entitled to appear as a party in civil proceedings in Norway. The Norwegian Supreme Court recently clarified the state of law in this respect. Read more |

Norway readies $750M for carbon-tech centre
Norway’s government has at last filed a motion to get the country’s parliament to fund a 5.2-billion-kroner ($751 million) carbon-capture and storage research facility at Mongstad, the site of a refinery in the southwest of the country, where some CCS testing is already underway. Read more |

Substantial progress on innovation in Europe
The 2008 European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) published today shows the EU making substantial progress in its innovation performance preceding the financial crisis. The relative innovation gap with the US and Japan was reduced, in particular amid strong progress by many new Member States such as Cyprus, Romania and Bulgaria. Across the EU, particular progress was made in human resources and availability of finance for innovation. However, innovative investments by businesses are still relatively weak especially if compared to the US and Japan. Read more

Success story: Scene Change Creative Consultants Ltd
Last year NBCC hosted a connect-up event for us where we explored cultural differences between Norway and UK using our interactive Forum Theatre model. As a direct result of the following write up in the newsletter I was contacted by Shell earlier this year and we were then invited to do a similar event in Bergen exploring effective leadership, safety & integrity and communication using the same format.
